Data We Collect
To deliver your notifications, Dhakerni stores the following on our server, linked to an anonymous user record (a numeric user ID, not your identity). None of it is used for advertising or tracking:
- Name — the first name or nickname you type when you start the app, used for the greeting. You can change it in Settings.
- User ID — a numeric identifier created when you start the app.
- Timezone and language — so reminders arrive at the right local time, in Arabic, English or French.
- Notification preferences — the hours you choose for morning and evening reminders and your daily notification window.
- Notification token — a device identifier used only to deliver push notifications through Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
- App and system version — the Dhakerni version, build and iOS version, so we can keep older versions working.
- Reports — if you report a dhikr, the short note you write with the report.
Location
Dhakerni uses your location in two ways, both on your iPhone only:
- Prayer times and sunrise/sunset are calculated on your device from your approximate position.
- Home and mosque reminders. If you save a home or a mosque, iOS notifies the app when you arrive or leave, so the matching dua can be shown. This needs the "Always" location permission, which the app asks for only when you save a place. You can remove a place or turn the permission off at any time.
Your location and the places you save are never sent to our servers or to anyone else.
What We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect your email address, phone number, contacts, location, browsing history or advertising identifier. There are no ads, no analytics SDKs and no tracking.
Data Sharing and Service Providers
We do not sell, trade or transfer your data to third parties for their own purposes. Two services process data on our behalf:
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs) receives the notification token solely to deliver reminders.
- Google reCAPTCHA Enterprise protects some requests (creating your user record, updating your settings and reporting a dhikr) against abuse. Its SDK collects a device identifier, performance data and information about how the app is used for that purpose. Google handles it under its own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. We use it only for security, not for advertising or tracking.
On-Device Features
These work entirely on your device and their data is never sent to us: the moments you turn on and the ones you mark "I said it", your saved places, dhikr goals and streaks, personal reminders, and your Sleep Focus link.
Photos
If you share a dhikr as an image, the app can save it to your photo library. It only adds images and cannot read your photos.
Data Retention and Deletion
Your server record is kept while you use notifications. To have it deleted, turn notifications off in the app or email us and we will delete it. Everything stored on your device is removed when you delete the app.
Children
Dhakerni is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond the nickname described above.
